About NJFA

A nonprofit fencing community in Maplewood, NJ since 2004.

New Jersey Fencing Alliance (NJFA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2004 by Head Coach Frank Mustilli. For two decades we've built a home for fencers of every level — from kids picking up a blade for the first time to athletes competing on the national and world stage.

We coach all three weapons — foil, épée, and sabre — under a staff that has medaled at the Olympic, World Championship, Pan American, and NCAA levels. Our mission is simple: make world-class coaching accessible, and make fencing fun.

More than a club

NJFA is one of the region's busiest fencing hubs. Beyond daily classes, we host a full calendar of sanctioned in-house tournaments — Foil, Épée, and Sabre Cups, Friday Night events, and youth divisions — and we serve as a venue for official USA Fencing referee seminars. When you train at NJFA, competition is right at home.

Open to everyone

As a nonprofit, we welcome athletes regardless of gender, disability, age, ability level, ethnicity, culture, or socio-economic background. We back that up with community outreach, scholarships, and educational programs — and our members have raised over $50,000 for charitable causes. We also sponsor elite training and competitive teams to develop Olympic-level fencers.
